What is polysorbate 80?
- A synthetic emulsifier — it keeps oil and water mixed and stops fat separating
- Made from sorbitol and oleic acid; part of the polysorbate family (E432–E436)

- Label names: polysorbate 80, E433, INS 433 (chemically: polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate)

- Ice cream, frozen desserts and whipped toppings
- Sauces, dressings and dessert mixes
- Cake mixes, bakery products and some chocolate
- Pickle products in the US (capped at 500 parts per million)
- In India: most common in ice creams, frozen desserts and packaged bakery — look for INS 433 on the label

So why is it flagged?
